about

'After Midnight' tells the story of a week in December. Innocence, joy, celebration, tears, and missing friends.

Not necessarily a Christmas song but seasonal! Hopefully without the suffocating happy chirp associated with that time of the year. Essentially it's a song about loss. A song that will make you feel warm inside, knowingly smile and maybe reminisce a little.

'After Midnight' is taken from the latest Davey Woodward & The Winter Orphans album. Their third album, called 'Mystic Science'. It is due for release in Spring 2023 on Last Night from Glasgow and Old Bad Habits.

lyrics

After Midnight

The traffics died down
Close the curtains
You ask if it's certain
Santa will come
Unblock the chimney
Get out the wine
Go to sleep now
It's after midnight

It's Christmas Day, open up your presents
The joy you get you almost lost your voice

It's snowing outside
You put on your scarf
I’ll tell you stories
That will make you laugh
When you are young
You dont know about sorrow
That's the way it should be
Don't care about tomorrow.

It's Christmas Day, open up your presents
The joy you get you almost lost your voice

You play with your toys
I drink too much beer
Santa has gone
It's almost New Year
When the adults get boisterous
And the music gets loud
There will be some flirting
Sure as hell there will be tears

We drink in those bars
Raise a glass to the stars
Here's to our friends who left us way too soon

It's Christmas Day
Dont grow up too soon.
